In Year 7, I wrote a persuasive essay about why Christmas should not be a public holiday. My point was other religions have their holidays, and the world doesn’t celebrate them – so why did non-Christians ‘celebrate’ Christmas?
Santa, lollies, sales and presents used to annoy me, as I thought they took away the focus. But I’ve realised that it’s our job as Christians to keep the focus on Jesus.
After being involved in productions, choirs, nativities, and volunteering, God’s shown me Christmas is a perfect opportunity for evangelism. Community and church events attract so many people who otherwise wouldn’t get a chance to hear the Good News.
I don’t mind sharing the holiday with everyone, because it is based on these facts.
Jesus is our peace. (Isaiah 9:6)
Jesus is our joy. (Luke 2:10)
Jesus is the light in the world. (John 8:12)
Jesus is our hope for eternity. (John 3:16)
So I pray that you get the chance to share this message. Maybe through a gift, social media, or some sort of volunteer work. Let this Christmas be one in which people everywhere will come and adore our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
