This isn’t really a lesson, but I thought it’d be cool to share some of the songs, verses, people and theological things that have shaped my year.
This song has guided a lot of my prayers over the years, but I only heard it for the first time this year. It was the theme of my youth camp, and I focused on praying for my friends a lot using this song and the verse 1 John 4:19, “We love because he first loved us.”
Narnia was, like many people, my introduction to C.S. Lewis. I was excited to study Lewis’ life and beliefs for religion class. It was awesome to learn he was an atheist and how God saved him. My favourite quote of his from Mere Christianity helped me gain a better perspective on life and eternity.
“If I find in myself desires which nothing in this world can satisfy, the only logical explanation is that I was made for another world.”
This year, my Bible reading was in the Gospels. Focusing on Jesus helped me love him more, and learn more about how he bridges the gap between us and God. Just thinking about the miraculous birth of Jesus, his life and ministry, his death, burial and resurrection – it never fails to amaze me. It made me realise how lowly we all are as humans, and how great he is to have come down from heaven to save us. I never want to take the gospel for granted, and neither should you.
Alongside my Gospels study, The Bible Project helped me understand things about the books and gave more insight into the Word. The podcast, Exploring My Strange Bible and Youtube videos were my favourite resources.
The Australian Christian Lobby has a news segment called the Truth of It, about all the current issues in light of scripture and truth. This has helped me be more aware of how Christians need to stand firm in the world and to bring a godly perspective to everything.
This magazine is cool to know all the interesting things happening with Christians in the media, as well as some insightful articles from contributors. I hope to publish an article with them one day.
A lot of these things will appear in my email list, so if you liked this post, subscribe to my email list to see the latest things I’m listening to or reading each month. I hope there’s some cool new content here for you to discover!
